Delineating the main structural outlines and the petrophysical properties of the Albian-upper Cretaceous Reservoirs using seismic and well log data, Shushan Basin, north Western Desert, Egypt

Abstract This study concerns with delineating and analyzing the subsurface structural setting of Khalda Oil Field at Shushan Basin as a key factor for evaluating petrophysical properties deliverability Bahariya Formation. is considered one most prospective basins in Western Desert. The oil trapped within gentle seismically defined anticline that contains series coastal sandstone reservoirs interbedded neritic tidal flat mudstone few carbonate interbeds Albian-Cenomanian Formation forming multiple oil-bearing reservoirs. A set borehole logging seismic data were available, tied, processed, mapped to delineate predominant structures area. Results show implication NW–SE, NE–SW, E–W gravity faulting on overlying Abu Roash formations. faults attributed Mesozoic tensional stresses. depth structure contour maps upper surfaces Lower Upper members reveal presence some NE–SW dissected into slightly tilted blocks, shallowing south deepening north. Besides, area has been affected later Jurassic by during Atlantic Ocean opening. trend was changed direction result movement North Africa against Laurasia. analysis indicated reservoir good quality (16 ? ? 25%, 53 Sw 59%, 6.0 Vsh 32.2%, net-pay thickness 18.0–38.0 ft). It revealed drilled wells penetrating crest are while located flanks water-bearing recommending exploration away from flanks. By applying this workflow, it possible explore similar hydrocarbons-bearing sequences Desert future exploitation plans.
